Inch by inch

Well at least when it was raining it wasn't frigging cold. My trusted (yet horribly inaccurate when it comes to predicting summer thunderstorms) www.weather.com says that it currently "feels like" -7C, and it's only going to get colder throughout the day.

A winter storm is approaching.

But the amount of snow is under debate. Weather.com claims as little as 3 inches, yet my morning dose of Chicago Public Radio claimed there would be as much as 10. I will keep you posted.

Drainage

Today it has rained. A lot. Evanston has serious drainage problems. The pavements are covered in water, so walking around in long trousers and flat shoes is a complete disaster. I'm going to have to give in and finally buy some winter boots...

Architects may come and architects may go...

The Chicago suburb of Oak Park has a fantastic collection of houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright:

Ramzy and I spent a lovely afternoon wandering around, after having been carefully instructed by a little old lady as to how to insert a headphone socket into an iPod so we could experience the "self-guided" tour of the area.

If you're interested, this one is for sale:

Giving thanks

I have just experienced my first thanksgiving in America and a jolly good experience it was too. There was much food, drink and general frivolities.

It shows something for the American desire to eat huge amounts of food that they can go through the whole shenanigans again in little over a month...

Ashes to ashes

As should have been obvious, Americans have no appreciation for cricket. And so I have had to resort to paying the (actually, quite fair) price of $99.95 to get streaming live coverage of the Ashes from www.willow.tv.

Of course, I'm lucky in that play starts at 6pm my time, and I can spend an enjoyable five evenings watching England get their arses kicked, rather than having to stay up into the ridiculously wee small hours.

Five-a-day

In the run-up to the midterm elections, you'd think I'd have something incisive and witty to say about the political candidates for the Chicago/Illinois area. Or perhaps I'd find some otherwise unthought of link between the elections and the timing of the verdict on Saddam Hussein. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling so politically minded right now, but instead I found this website to be rather amusing:
