Bananas
I don't actually have a lot to say about bananas in America, they seem pretty normal. However, if you want to say anything about bananas, banana guards or any other banana paraphernalia in the UK or anywhere else around the world, this would be the place to do it.

Always take a banana to a party.
Either in UK or US.
Bananas in the UK are nasty. Bananas in France are nasty. Bananas in Italy are nasty. Bananas in Israel are nasty. By induction, bananas in th US are nasty too.
New Scientist had an article a while back saying all the bananas we get in supermarkets are very similar genetically and hence vulnerable to disease. Maybe in 10 years we will have different bananas after all the current type die out.
Also re banana ripening, bananas can be ripened with ethylene. However, bananas also produce it naturally -- ie once one banana in a bunch starts to ripen, all the others will be induced to ripen at the same time!
Surely it is essential that all bananas in our supermarkets are very similar genetically.
If they weren't bananas they might be carrots. Or marmosets.
