Shoes
Many months ago, in the depths of winter, I bought myself a lovely pair of boots, in England. After a month or two's wearing, something strange happened to them and they started to fall apart. I dutifully took the boots back to the shop I bought them from (in England) and pointed out that this was probably a manufacturing fault and could I please have a replacement/my money back. The manager of the shop, full of English charm, said it was not a manufacturing fault and they must have fallen apart because my feet were too sweaty. Hence no refund.
A month or so ago, I bought, in America, a rather nice pair of sandals. Last week I happened to notice that the leather on the left shoe had worn much more than that of the right shoe and was looking rather worse for wear. Ignoring my roommate's cries of "Ha! Your feet are too sweaty!" I took them back to the shop I bought them from (in America). With barely a glance at the shoes, the kind manager offered me a store credit of the full amount which I can spend at any time.
God bless America. And shoes.
