Buoy
I've just started a sailing course, which is great fun. The most amusing thing is the way Americans pronounce "buoy". As in, to rhyme with "pooey". Crazy fools.
This is not a series of rants about America. Just a number of observations about those little niggling differences between the USA and the UK.

Real words that it rhymes with include dewy and Louis. And Hughie, I suppose. Wow, it's possible to misspell all of Donald Duck's nephews.
Where are the Americans to defend their crazy pronunciation?
Phooey.
Not sure where the Americans are (well actually, one is in America at the moment), but I can confirm the silly pronunciation of 'booey' is one thing John has not lost in all his time here.
'Booey' is better than 'boy'. It eliminates the possibility of confusion about a potentially life-threatening situation involving a small male child.
`Rooney's progress boo-eys Eriksson'?
That would just be wrong.
